How members share their referral link and track their earnings.
When a business enables referrals, you can earn bonus points by inviting friends. Share your unique link, and when your friend signs up and makes their first purchase, you both earn rewards.
To access your referral link:
Log in to your member account
Click Refer a Friend in the Quick Actions on your dashboard, or click Referrals in the navigation
You'll see each program you can participate in
Each program displays your unique shareable link
💡 Tip: If you don't see a Referrals section, the businesses you've joined may not have enabled their referral program yet.
Every member gets a unique referral code for each program. Your code:
Is 6 characters long (letters and numbers, like AB12CD)
Is yours forever — it never changes
Is embedded in your link — friends don't need to enter it manually
Can be shared as just the code or the full link
Your link looks like: https://rewards.business.com/r/AB12CD
The referral dashboard provides several ways to share:
Click the Copy button to copy your full referral link to the clipboard. Then paste it anywhere—text messages, social media, group chats, etc.
Click the WhatsApp icon to open WhatsApp with a pre-filled message and your link. Just choose a contact and send.
Click the Email icon to open your email app with a ready-to-send message. Add recipients and hit send.
On mobile devices, the Share button opens your device's native share sheet. This lets you share via any app installed on your phone—Messages, Instagram DMs, Telegram, and more.
The referral dashboard shows your performance at a glance:
Stat | What It Means |
|---|---|
Total Invited | Friends who signed up using your link |
Completed | Friends who made their first purchase |
Points Earned | Total bonus points from all referrals |
Below your stats, you'll see a list of recent referrals with:
Friend's first name — Just the first name for privacy
Status badge — Pending (yellow) or Completed (green)
Date — When they signed up or completed
Pending means your friend signed up but hasn't made a purchase yet. You'll earn points when they do.
Points are awarded when your friend makes their first purchase—not just when they sign up. This is an important distinction:
Friend clicks your link — No points yet
Friend signs up — No points yet (referral is "pending")
Friend makes first purchase — 🎉 Points awarded!
This applies to any points-earning transaction on a loyalty card. It could be:
Shopping in-store and showing their QR code
Making a purchase through an online integration (Shopify; alpha feature)
Receiving points manually from staff
Note: Stamp card transactions don't trigger referral completion—only loyalty card (points) transactions count.
When a referral completes, you'll receive an email notification with:
How many points you earned
Your friend's first name
The card that received the points
A link to view your updated balance
These notifications respect your email preferences. If you've opted out of emails, you won't receive referral notifications, but you'll still earn the points.
Friends who would genuinely enjoy the business — Real recommendations convert better
People who haven't joined the program yet — Existing members can't be referred
Local contacts — They need to be able to visit and make purchases
After a great experience — Your enthusiasm is contagious
Before special occasions — "Try this place for your birthday dinner"
In relevant conversations — Natural recommendations feel more genuine
Don't just send a bare link. Add context:
"I love the coffee here and thought you'd like it too. If you use my link to sign up, we both get bonus points!"
"They have a great loyalty program. Here's my referral link—you'll get a welcome bonus on your first visit."
No. The system prevents self-referrals. If you click your own link, you'll see a message explaining this.
If someone already has an account, they can't use your referral link. Only new signups count as referrals.
No. The first referral link used "wins." If your friend clicked someone else's link before yours, that person gets credit for the referral.
The referral is probably still "pending." Check your referral list for a yellow Pending badge. Points come after their first purchase.
Referral bonus points follow the same rules as regular points on that loyalty card. Check the card's terms for expiration details.
No! Invite as many friends as you like. Each completed referral earns you points.
